⁶For it stands in Scripture:

^(A)“Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone,
a cornerstone chosen and precious,
^(B)and whoever believes in him will not be put to shame.”

⁷So the honour is for you who ^(C)believe, but for those who ^(D)do not believe,

^(E)“The stone that the builders rejected
has become the cornerstone”,^[a]

⁸and

^(F)“A stone of stumbling,
and a rock of offence.”

They stumble because they disobey the word, ^(G)as they were destined to do.
